I come by my dancing and creative skills naturally. My mother, originally from Austria, was an artist and dancer and my father wrote, acted and directed plays as a passionate hobby. Raised in the family tradition of international folk dance, I began formal dance training at age five. Erica Thimey, renowned choreographer and teacher of modern and sacred dance, Balanchine-trained ballet teacher Kathryn Mullowny, Jaqui Hepner of the National School of Ballet, and Jan Van Dyke, well-known modern dance innovator and head of the dance department of UNC in Greensboro are among those with whom I studied for a number of years. From 1984 to 1999, I facilitated an annual Women’s Seminar, creating a biblical drama with choreographed dance for each event. I have taken outdoor theater and dance productions to New York City, Montreal, Colombia, South America and Nimes, France. I continue to expand my repertoire with social dance specialties like swing, salsa, zydeco, two-step, line dance, cha-cha, and others. Contra dance, waltz and polka have long been favorites.
I see dance as an opportunity to express the depths of soul and Spirit, to socialize, become more physically fit, and above all, to PLAY! – an art easily lost in the midst of the stresses of our modern day world. I have a special gift for imparting the joy of dance to beginners and to those who long to feel more free in expressing themselves while connecting with others.
